  1. Get Prepared to Write

If you’re not a season writer you should know that the pro’s often start with great preparation. And, this means you have to put some thought into what you’re going to write. Think of questions like: Why am I writing this piece in the first place? Who’s going to read it? What do I want them to know, understand, or do once they’ve read the article? What’s the subject? What’s the overall message I want to send?

Make sure your content has a good structure. This one little step makes all the difference for your readers and for Google. If the content makes its point in a logical order, it’ll be much easier to grasp the main message. Think of the various things you want to discuss in your article. Think about the order you should address issues. And, then jot it down. Write a few words for every paragraph you’d like to write.


Structuring your content means helping your reader grasp what you’re writing about. Help your readers by adding headings and images. Make sure sentences and paragraphs aren’t too long. And, make sure you use transition words. (transitions describe relationships between ideas)

Don’t write sentences longer than 25 words. If you’re not the best writer make sure you write shorter sentences. Longer sentences are much harder to read. People are capable of handling 20 to 25 words in thought. If you write longer sentences your readers will need to use more cognitive power to discern the message. In order to fully understand they’ll reread or read at a much slower pace, plus writers tend to make grammatical errors whenever sentences become longer. For every writer starting out, keep it simple and be direct.


Shorter sentences are just one aspect of user readability. There are other things you can do to make your copy easy to read. Try limiting the use of a passive voice, write short paragraphs, and make sure to use transition words whenever possible.


  1. Give the reader examples and short stories

Adding examples, things like fun facts, and short stories will make your work much more appealing for your reader. Using short stories in an article may sound like too much work because it might seem like professional writing. But adding examples is a great way to make user experience more enjoyable. If you’re writing about a service or something you’re unfamiliar with, make sure to add user stories or give a few examples on how people have already benefited. Examples will help your readers understand what you mean, and it’ll make your content more enjoyable for them.


  1. Conclude!

Be sure and get back to the main message in your conclusion. That’s a way of bringing your message full circle. By finishing strong you ensure the message will resonate with your audience. Whenever you use an example in your introduction, be sure to use a similar example in your conclusion.
